Speak & Search Lecture Series

KIIT School of Electronics Engineering (SoEE) organized a special talk under Speak and Search Lecture Series “Gamma oscillations in Brain Computer Interface (BCI): a tool to investigate brain function in health and disease” on 26th March 2021. Speaker_Prof. Supratim Ray, Centre for Neuroscience, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore presented the presence of gamma waves in the brain activity of a healthy adult is related to certain motor functions or perceptions. He has shown few slides about Visually induced gamma-band responses in human electroencephalographic (EEG) activity and experiential study in Monkey which was recorded by implanting electronic chip on the brain. His experimental findings demonstrate that boosting gamma oscillations in specific brain areas appears to be able to restore cognitive function and reduce relative pathology in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. This techniques can be used as a biomarker in detecting the Alzheimer’s disease. His project is a collaborative  work between IISC and NIMHANS Banaglore.

The special talk will be benefited to Master students, research scholars and faculty members with an opportunity to get an idea about  state of art technology related to brain disorders and brain computer interfacing. The talk was coordinated  by Dr. S.K Sabat, in the presence of Dr. Suprava Patnaik, Dean, Dr. Amlan Datta, Associate Dean, Faculty members and students of the School.
