Write-up on the Event:

The School of Electronics Engineering, in collaboration with the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society (AP-S), IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) Student Branch Chapter, and the IEEE AP-S and MTT-S Bhubaneswar joint Chapter, successfully organized an expert talk titled “Design and Development of Flat Panel Phased Array Antennas” on 25th February 2025. The session was delivered by Prof. Satish K. Sharma, IEEE Fellow, Professor at San Diego State University, author of over 275 research publications, and recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award and IEEE AP-S Harold A. Wheeler Prize. The talk focused on cutting-edge antenna technologies, with special emphasis on flat panel phased array antennas for base station infrastructures and CubeSat communication systems. Prof. Sharma provided valuable insights into the complete design lifecycle, including array architecture, beamforming techniques, fabrication challenges, and performance optimization. He also discussed advanced measurement and validation techniques essential for ensuring reliability in practical deployments. Applications of flat panel phased arrays in next-generation wireless systems, satellite communications, and emerging space technologies were highlighted. Beyond technical aspects, Prof. Sharma emphasized the importance of social awareness, academic outreach, and mentorship in advancing antenna research for societal benefit. The session fostered rich interaction and inspired students and researchers to pursue innovation in modern antenna engineering
