Sensing & Computing lab

Signal & Image Processing is a broad engineering discipline that is concerned with extracting, manipulating, and storing information embedded in complex signals and images. The Signal and Machine Perceptron Lab at KIIT University facilitates UG/PG and PhD students to pursue research in the areas of sensing & computing. This lab focuses on both fundamental and applied aspects of signal, image, and video processing. The research work is interdisciplinary and focuses on signal processing, image analysis, video coding, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and applied mathematics. Faculty and students from electronics, computer, and medical sciences streams are engaged in projects in a wide range of applications focusing on the fields of power signals, agriculture, and healthcare technology. The lab provides space for students with the latest equipment, workstations, and advanced software for carrying out the research work. The laboratory engaged in the design, implementation, and optimization of algorithms for the detection of various diseases in the healthcare and agriculture field at affordable cost by using a data acquisition system, multispectral drone, computing systems, and data acquisition system for 3-phase fault signal,  Our research is applied in cardiovascular, neurology, radiology, and cancer biology in collaboration with a clinician from of Kalinga Institute of Medical Science, KIIT University and other interdisciplinary departments also. The lab facilities include High-end workstations, MATLAB, DSO, a data acquisition system, and LabVIEW (cRIO, MyRIO).

  • Visionary Intelligence & Elevated Imagination: The demand for high-quality aerial data capture from UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is growing fast and increasing rapidly.
  • Research applications: Agriculture, Choreographic mapping, Disaster management, Wildlife monitoring, Traffic control, Entertainment, Civil work, etc.
  • The smart grid adopts many renewable energy sources like solar and fuel cells and also features an EV charging system.
  • In this lab, a three-phase voltage and currents are measured by using sensors.
  • The data is captured in the Lab VIEW platform by using a CRIO controller.
  • The actual position of the line is also captured using GPS. This helps to identify the fault location in a transmission line.
  • The captured voltage and currents are analyzed by using the signal process algorithm to detect any abnormalities in voltage and current waveform.
  • The real-time waveform will also be sent to a central monitoring system by using IOT devices and the Firebase cloud system.

  • A Hybrid-8 base unit with 8 hybrid channels supports multi-sensor data acquisition from digital/analog sensors, Bluetooth and BLE streaming capabilities, data logging features, all software add-ons, and other advanced features.
  • It is used for the acquisition of biosignal data (e.g. ECG, EDA, EMG, temperature, EGG, Goniometer, etc )
  • It has been designed for research focus by enabling high-quality biosignal acquisition applications.
  • Synchronous data acquisitions are supported for up to 8-sensors simultaneously with analog sensors being sampled at up to 3kHz sampling rate and 16-bit resolution, and up to 24-bit sampling resolution for digital sensors.
